Children

Welcome to the Children’s Ministries

Each week, we work hard to intentionally create a loving and safe environment where your kids can develop positive, relational connections and be taught the truth of God’s Word on a level they can understand.

Our Values:

  • Family Worship

Parents, as seen in God’s Word, have the primary responsibility for teaching and modeling worship and truth to their children, (Deuteronomy 6:7; 11:18-21). We are committed to developing a structure of ministry in which your children can receive age appropriate ministry and, in addition, be included in corporate worship as part of our church family, (Deuteronomy 31:12-13).

  • Building Healthy Families

The Severn Run church family is committed to partnering with parents in their role of spiritually mentoring their children. It is our desire to provide families with weekly resources that will assist them in teaching spiritual truth in the home. Our philosophy of ministering to children includes a vital ministry to parents. We believe assisting parents in building a spiritual foundation in their home will result in Christ-centered marriages, more loving parents, and therefore, healthier children.

  • Loving Others

Jesus said there is a way we can show others that we are His disciples – by loving one another, (John 13:35). As we entered 2010, a ministry was created that is helping us love others through meeting their needs. The Karis Project is ongoing series of mission opportunities through which the families and children of The Church at Severn Run can change the world around them by offering love, hope, and compassion to those in need. As we strive toward building a balanced foundation of faith in the lives of our families, The Karis Project keeps us focused on the task of sharing the grace of Jesus Christ with our communities, nation, and world.

Environments

The Neighborhood is a fun-filled visual experience geared specifically for young children open to children, birth – pre-K during our 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 AM Worship Services. Leaders in The Neighborhood use creative ways to teach young children three truths, “God Loves Me,” “God Made Me,” and “Jesus Wants To Be My Friend Forever.”

Discovery Park is a worship environment offered at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM that is designed specifically for children in kindergarten and 1st grade. We use Scripture memory, Bible lessons, crafts, activities, music, and videos in creative ways as we help children discover biblical truths and virtues.

Kid City is a worship service designed specifically for kids in 2nd-5th grade. The 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Kid City worship experiences are the same, so kids are encouraged to attend one hour and to attend worship with their family the alternate hour. Each month we focus on a different Virtue as we teach children to develop in faith and character. We utilize interactive activities, exciting worship, games and crafts, and relevant video to teach God’s Word. In addition to large group worship, each week children connect relationally with other kids their own age in small groups.

Family Resources

  • God Time Sheets – These sheets help kids have a weekly plan to read Scripture and carry out tasks that are directly related to the monthly Virtue and the Bottom Line of the week. These are received by kids as they exit Discovery Park and Kid City. The Neighborhood classes offer similar sheets for parents to use with their children.
  • Family Times Devotional Sets – This devotional is made available on a monthly basis. This is a resource designed to help equip parents with easy to use tools to make the most of everyday moments together. It is based on the biblical model that teaches that the home should be the primary place where a child learns about God. You will receive activities to be used once a week during each of these four times: Meal Time, Drive Time, Bed Time, and Morning Time.
  • Kid Notes –This is a kid-friendly worship guide that is offered at various times as you enter a Worship Service. Kid Notes are focused on keeping children engaged in worship and contains sermon notes, fun activities, and thought-provoking questions specific to the current sermon series.
  • Children’s Ministries Newsletter – We publish a one-page newsletter for parents that is current to the season and communicates information about upcoming events related to Children’s Ministries. These can be picked up in the Atrium at the Welcome and Information Desk or at the Welcome Desk as you enter The Neighborhood.
