Our ministries are an important and integral part of our church community. Whether you are a student, single or married there is a ministry designed for you. Check out our ministries and consider joining in the Church at Severn Run community. Administrative/Office Volunteers

From time to time the office needs volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Volunteers serve as receptionists, answering phones and directing visitors; perform data entry; photocopy materials; assist with preparing various mailings by placing labels on cards, folding and stuffing church newsletters, envelopes, etc.; and assist with other office needs as they arise.

Band of Brothers (BoB): Ministry to Men

Severn Run Band of Brothers is committed to providing authentic fellowship, molding men into Disciples of Christ. As disciples for Christ, we will be committed to bringing men into a life-saving and life changing relationship with Christ Jesus. Through discipleship we will train men to become leaders in their homes, their workplace, and their communities. Through fellowship, we will create vital relationships with each other that will help make us better husbands, better fathers, and better servants of God.

Children's Ministries

Each week, we work hard to intentionally create a loving and safe environment where your kids can develop positive, relational connections and be taught the truth of God's Word on a level they can understand. We hope you find our Pre-School and Children's Ministries to be places of spiritual nurture for your little ones.

Christian Assistance Program, Inc. (CAP)

A multi-denominational Christian outreach program in which The Church at Severn Run participates with other local churches to distribute donated food and clothing to families in need.
Helpers in this ministry do the following tasks:
  • greet and give clients an information form to complete
  • stock donated food and clothing on shelves and in other designated places
  • prepare packages for clients
  • load items in clients’ cars, if assistance is required straighten up the CAP office before and after hours of Operation

Christian Prepared for Resuscitation (CPR)

The CPR Ministry offers courses to anyone ages 16 and older who need or want a refresher on the NEW basics of CPR skills (no card issued), or who need Certification in either Basic Life Support or Healthcare Providers.

Individuals who are Certified Instructors in CPR by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross are needed to assist with the teaching of the course. Currently courses are offered quarterly. PLEASE NOTE: the more Instructors per course, the more participants we are eligible to have (acceptable ratio is 6 students per facilitator/instructor.) Courses are taught by DVD, handbook and hands-on experience, usually in a conference room at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. First Aid Instructor Certification is a plus.

Creative Design

To teach, fellowship and encourage each other as we creatively search for ways to capture God’s creation through art and photography. Any age and level of experience is invited to attend.

Discovery Series

The Discovery Series contains three one hour classes: 101 Discovering Disciple; 201 Spiritual Maturity; and 301 Discovering My Ministry. Service opportunities include teaching and assisting in the classrooms.

Facility Support

This ministry has three teams that require a variety of skills:
  • Building Maintenance
  • Computer/Network Support
  • Landscaping

First Aid Ministry

A ministry composed of volunteers who are certified and willing to provide CPR and First Aid to individuals who are experiencing medical emergencies. This team supports church-wide events and activities and maintains the First Aid and other medical kits and equipment on the Severn Run campus.

Flowers and Decorations

This ministry team uses flowers, plants and other decorations to beautify the building. Live growing plants serve as a symbol for the growth that should be occurring in the lives of Christians. Team members plan, purchase, arrange and maintain the plants and decorations in the auditorium, atrium and open areas inside the building at The Church at Severn Run.

God's Heart

God’s Heart Ministry serves the community by meeting physical needs (food, clothing, furniture), mental needs (reading to children), and spiritual needs (sharing the Gospel). God’s Heart workers use a huge variety of skills:
  • arts & crafts – painting faces, making balloon animals, leading children’s crafts, painting murals, making Advent Wreaths, etc.
  • collections – receiving, sorting, and distributing food, clothing, school supplies, gifts, and furniture
  • transportation – delivering food, clothing, gifts, and furniture (muscles, dollies and pick-up trucks are always useful)
  • reading and parties – working with children ages 2 – 5, weekdays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • leading activities – relay races, coin toss, and similar activities at fairs
  • computer – RDS (data base entry), MS Excel, MS Word
  • writing – news articles, thank you letters, etc.
  • leadership – planning, coordinating, team building, leading teams, reviewing activities

Greeter Ministry

The Greeter Ministry supports church-wide services and events through a friendly team of folks who welcome members and guests who come to the Church at Severn Run. We do this ministry by opening doors, shaking hands, smiling, offering friendly greetings, and escorting guests to various areas in the building. The Team greets people as they enter the auditorium for worship and also helps them to find setting. As they leave, the Greeters greet them as well and wish them a pleasant afternoon. They are also available to assist with any emergencies that may arise during the worship service. They also assist the staff during the service as needed with passing out or collecting materials. The team also performs the collection of tithes and offerings and the transfer of the collection to the appropriate receiver. Many greeters are needed for a facility the size of Severn Run

Hospitality

The Hospitality Ministry is comprised of four teams:

The Coffee Shop
Members serve beverages and snacks from the coffee shop during church-wide activities and other requested events. Members maintain the product inventory and coffee shop area.

Church-wide Events
Members of this team help with planning hospitality support for church-wide events that include meals, snacks, and drinks. The team provides the people-power and expertise for purchasing, presenting, serving, setting up and cleaning up.

Discovery
The team purchases and serves lunch to people attending the Sunday afternoon Discovery Series classes. The team also does the set up and clean up for the lunch.

Food Team Ministry
The Food Team Ministry provides one meal for families during crisis such as critical illness and/or death in the immediate family. Food that is donated can be homemade or bought at the store. Teams of 8-10 members serve on a rotational basis.

Housekeeping

“In my Father’s house there are many rooms, if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2

Just as Jesus went to prepare a place for us in his Father’s house, the Housekeeping Team prepares the building each week. Opportunities for service include:
  • Dusting
  • Bathrooms – Downstairs and Upstairs
  • Trash removal
  • Window cleaning
  • Vacuuming – Sanctuary, Atrium, Children’s Area, Youth Area, Upstairs open area & classrooms
This is a great way to serve together as a family or with a friend.

Journey and Study Group Ministries

The Journey Group Ministry exists to develop dynamic Christ-Centered communities of people who passionately love Jesus, genuinely love one another, and compassionately love the Pre-Christian while doing life together. There are two requirements to be a Journey Group Leader: a sincere love of God, and a sincere love of people.

The Study Group Ministry exists to connect people to God through a deep investigative look at scripture and to grow through application of the study in our daily lives. There are three requirements for becoming a Study Group Leader: a sincere love of God, a sincere love of People, and the gift of Teaching. JOY (Just Older Youth)

Our purpose is to build a loving community where adults connect to God and to each other; a community where we discover our ministries and use them to reach out and share the love of Jesus.

We want to build a community where:

J - Jesus is the leader in all we do
O - Obeying God's call is our focus
Y - You are never too old to serve

Media Ministry

The Media Ministry supports just about every aspect of the church’s ministries. A primary function is the support to the Worship Ministry.

  • Audio Team: Operates and maintains the sound, lighting and video equipment before, during, and after each service. Sound checks and practices are done before the first service. Microphones, playback CD's, service recordings, and stage lighting are actively controlled and monitored during each service and between services.
  • Video Team: Projects visuals that include song and sermon texts as well as short videos that facilitate worship.

Ministry Support Team (MST)

The Ministry Support Team is a team of seven people who “support all ministries of the church not directly led by staff” (By-Laws, 2004, p. 6). This team accomplishes three main functions: provides guidance in the areas of organization and process; helps with leadership development; and performs ministry reviews for non-staff directed ministries.

The length of service is one year and team members must be Severn Run members. No one person but the Team as a whole possesses all of the following skills:

  • Leadership - management, leadership development

  • Technology - database (development and maintenance),computer, web, internet, MS Office Suite programs

  • financial/budget

  • Communication - community/public relations and public speaking, writing

Ordinance Team

This team prepares for, assists in, and performs clean-up for baptisms and the Lord's Supper (Communion). Helpers perform the majority of their work on Sunday morning or whenever there is a baptism or Lord's Supper. The following tasks are performed:

  • Baptisms
    • removing cover from baptistery
    • filling (one tub), emptying and cleaning tub
    • putting carpet remnants out as runners from tub to dressing room
    • preparing and cleaning dressing rooms
    • preparing candidates by showing them the baptism process, giving them a T-shirt to wear, etc.
    • helping candidates out of tub and giving them a towel
  • Lord's Supper
    • setting up and taking down tables
    • setting up and distributing the elements
    • traffic control - directing people to tables
    • cleaning equipment (trays, dispensers, table clothes)
Team members must be members of the Church of Severn Run.

Plugged into God

This ministry helps people connect with Jesus and His followers. Team members write emails and notes to guests, deliver welcome packages, and assist staff with phone calls and visits to individuals making spiritual decisions. Members of the team have a passion for connecting people to the church, journey groups and ministries.

PLUGGED-in has several teams:

  • The Contact Team, which has three teams of its own:Email/Note writers, DIS 101 Support Team, and Visitation Team.
  • The Database Team
  • The Training Team

Prayer Ministry

Prayer is vital to the life of the Church at Severn Run. It is our connection to the Father, our power source. Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Mark 11:17 There are many opportunities to be a part of this ministry:
  • Intercessory Prayer Chain - A prayer request is called into the prayer leader, and the leader calls the request into the different prayer groups.
  • Tuesday Morning Prayer - This group prays every Tuesday Morning at 6am at the Church at Severn Run campus.
  • Prayer Warriors - This group prays during the week for the prayer requests that are turned in on Sunday mornings from the worship services.
  • Worship Warriors - This group prays on Sunday morning during the 9:30 & 11:30AM worship specifically for the worship services.

Prison Ministry

The prison ministry offers opportunities for meeting the spiritual needs of inmates through mentoring, and/or Bible Study, and/or Sunday church services. The Church at Severn Run currently volunteers in the areas of weekly mentoring, weekly Bible study on Tuesday evenings, and Sunday religious services eleven times per year. Additional volunteer opportunities such as sewing classes, reading and literacy assistance are also available.

Senior Adult Ministry Leadership Team

  • Helps with the planning and carrying out of the Senior Adult activities
  • Attends leadership planning meetings and retreats
  • Supports the Senior Adult ministry by attending the Senior Adult activities
  • Supports the vision of the Church at Severn Run
  • Visits and cares for other Senior Adults
  • Connected in a Journey Group

  • Helps with the planning and carrying out of Singles activities

    A ministry designed to build relationships with the surrounding community through sports.

    Student Ministry

    The Church at Severn Run Student Ministry exist to reach out to the 8000 students in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and help them connect with the God of the Universe. Our hope is to create a safe place for students to come and explore who God is, what He has created us to be and to fall in love with Him. "By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us-set us right with him, make us fit for him-we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that's not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand-out in the wide open spaces of God's grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise." Romans 5:1-2 (the message) It is our goal to help students find the wide open spaces of God's grace, help them to connect with Him and each other! Life is a journey and we want to journey through life together!

    Treasure Matters - Financial Stewardship

    This ministry team teaches and counsels people to handle money God's way so that they can be free to serve Him. Potential Volunteer Opportunities Include:
    • Financial counselors (spend plans and debt reduction only), training supplied e.g. Crown
    • Small Group Leaders for Crown small group study, training supplied e.g. Crown

    Welcome Team Ministry

    A ministry designed to provide a friendly response to people visiting the Welcome Table seeking information and/or assistance. Types of assistance provided are varied and include things like providing directions to different areas in the building, providing Journey Group brochures, and responding to general questions about the church, services and activities offered at the Church at Severn Run.

    Woman2Woman Ministry

    A ministry that facilitates opportunities for fun and friendship for the women of The Church at Severn Run and or their friends, neighbors, and communities!

    Women on Mission

    Our mission is to inspire and inform our congregation about international, national and local missions by doing, praying and giving. We accomplish this through several activities such as making goodie boxes for college students; sending cards of encouragement to our service men and women; women's luncheons; a candlelight service at Christmas; an international dinner and study; supporting adult and youth mission trips through prayer and prayer reminders; and special guest speakers to educate us on mission opportunities.

    Worship Ministry

    "Worship One + Love All"

    The Worship Ministry exists to facilitate encounters with God in which the people of God are radically changed and those God-changed lives draw the world into a personal encounter with God.

    • Worship Choir: The perfect place for new singers to begin using their talents at Severn. Choir members rehearse on Wednesdays at 7:45 pm in the Worship Center.
    • Vocal Worship Team: For singers who learn music quickly, can sing as a team, and who are very flexible. Vocal Worship teams rehearse Tuesdays at 6:30 pm on a rotating basis. (Interview/Audition required.)
    • Worship Band: For instrumentalists who learn music quickly, can play as a team, and who are very flexible. The Worship Band rehearses Tuesdays at 6:30 pm on a rotating basis. (Interview/Audition required.)
    • Worship Support Team: If you are a "behind the scenes" person and enjoy supporting the Worship Teams you will find many opportunities here.
